The source
A habesha portrait, struck in relief
The face sits centred on a beaded disc, but the subject is the hair — coils worked in relief out to the rim, HABESHA raised across the crown, and a pick set into the curls on the right. Shallow relief, which leaves the light to do the drawing: flat against a wall it reads as a disc, turned toward a window it reads as a face.
- 0166.6 mm across, 9.5 mm deep
- 02Beaded rim, raised HABESHA lettering
- 03Takes a magnet or a hanging cord
- 04Shallow relief — best hung where light crosses it
Also cast.
